The Values Behind Our Menopause Support in Reading
Compassion — Meeting Every Woman Where She Is
Everything we do at CHC Menopause Café is guided by five core values. These are not aspirational statements on a wall. They are the principles that shape every session, every conversation, every decision, and every relationship we build.
Compassion
We meet women where they are, not where we think they should be. Menopause is deeply personal and every woman's experience is different. Some women arrive at our sessions feeling confident and well-informed. Others arrive feeling lost, exhausted, and unsure whether what they're experiencing is normal. We welcome everyone with the same warmth, patience, and understanding. Compassion means listening without judgement, never minimising what a woman is going through, and always responding with kindness.
Inclusion
Menopause does not discriminate and neither do we. Our sessions and community are open to all women regardless of their ethnicity, cultural background, faith, language, economic situation, or life experience. We are particularly committed to reaching women from communities that have historically been underserved by healthcare and wellbeing services in Reading. Inclusion is not just about opening a door. It's about making sure that door feels genuinely welcoming to everyone who approaches it.
Safety — A Judgement-Free Space to Talk
A safe space is more than a phrase. For us it means creating an environment where women can speak freely about their symptoms, their fears, their frustrations, and their experiences without the risk of being judged, dismissed, or pressured. There is no right or wrong way to experience menopause. Our role is not to tell women what to do, but to create a space where they feel safe enough to figure out what's right for them.
Community — Because No Woman Should Face Menopause Alone
One of the most powerful things that happens at our Menopause Café session is that moment when the woman realises she is not alone. That the experiences she has been carrying quietly, the anxiety, the self-doubt, the feeling that she doesn't recognise herself any more, are experiences that other women understand because they have felt them too. Community is not just a nice add-on to what we do. It is in many ways the whole point.
Empowerment — Helping Women Feel Informed and Confident
We believe every woman deserves to feel informed and confident about her own wellbeing. Our sessions are designed not to tell women what to think or what decisions to make, but to give them the information, the language, and the community support they need to make those decisions for themselves. Empowerment looks different for every woman and that alone can change everything.
